About

Hello, I’m Neil. I am a Chartered Psychologist, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Worcester and Associate Dean at Ambition Institute

As a Chartered Psychologist, I apply the principles of psychology to leadership, people development, inclusion and organisational behaviour.  I have a particular specialism in educational institutions.

As a practitioner, I have over 20 years practitioner experience applying a broad evidence base as a teacher, learning designer , leader, parent support worker, carer, counsellor and governor. Combining strategic vision, the latest research and hands-on experience, I am able to design and implement learning initiatives across psychology, education, and leadership to deliver sector-leading outcomes. My work has driven measurable change — from securing outstanding outcomes in external inspections and student achievement, to strengthening teams and organisations at scale and expanding what they can offer their respective sectors. My CV outlines my achievements to date.

My academic background is diverse – stretching from biomedical science, the psychology of inclusion through to the leadership development and complexity theory. My cutting-edge research has

  • united adult development and complexity theory to revolutionise how we understand leaders in how they make decisions, think, feel and behave.
  • Challenged how we develop leaders to embrace complexity.
  • Redefined how we should recognise leadership.
  • Created a free-to-access, open source professional development platform supporting leadership complex situations.

In working with individuals and organisations,  my multi-disciplinary background delivers both new knowledge and practical forms of action for the real world. I have been delighted to work with and advise a wide range of high profile organisations to support their leadership and organisational development.  These have included:

  • The Chartered College of Teaching
  • Church of England’s’ Foundation for Educational Leadership
  • The Teacher Development Trust
  • The Department for Education as an expert advisor to the NPQ Review group.
  • Ambition Institute
  • The Institute of Directors
  • Several Russell Group HEI’s
  • Large, multi-national organisations.
  • NGOs with an internal educational development focus.

I was also the Head of Specialist Therapies for Oak National Academy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
